Highly porous structure and low bulk density make it effective as a filter aid in laboratory filtration, used in combination with filter paper of smaller pore size than the kieselguhr particles. Performs well with colloidal particle suspensions. Compatible with FILTER-LAB filter paper ref. 1297. Three grades available to match retention requirements.

Diatomaceous Earth Kieselguhr Laboratory Filter Aid

Kieselguhr sourced from white sedimentary rock formations. The porous, low-density structure consists of fossilised siliceous shells from diatom algae. Widely used as a filter aid in both industrial and laboratory filtration processes.

Laboratory Use

Applied with filter paper of smaller pore size than the kieselguhr particles. Forms a precoat layer on the filter medium that retains colloidal particles the paper alone would not capture. Compatible with diatomaceous earth filter paper FILTER-LAB ref. 1297.

Recommended for samples containing colloidal particles or high concentrations of gelatinous solids.

Available Grades

Three kieselguhr grades—each defined by retention efficiency. Selection depends on particle size distribution and the degree of clarification required.

  • Type 1: Lower retention, higher flow rate
  • Type 2: Intermediate efficiency — balance between retention and throughput
  • Type 3: Higher retention, suited to finer particles
