Cellulose Fibres for Quantitative and Qualitative Filtration
Cellulose fibres comprising long fibres, short fibres and pure cotton linters. Equivalent in composition to filter papers used for qualitative and quantitative analysis. Available in quantitative and qualitative grades based on ash content.
How to Use
Two standard applications in the laboratory:
- Mixing with the sample: Add fibres directly to the suspension to be filtered. Promotes flocculation and improves retention of fine particles.
- Pre-filtration bed: Pack fibres into the funnel ahead of the filter paper. Forms a protective layer that extends paper life when working with high-solids samples.
Always use in conjunction with a slow-speed filter paper.
Available Grades
- Quantitative: Low ash content. For gravimetric analysis where the ignition residue tare is critical.
- Qualitative: Higher ash content permitted. For separations and filtrations where precise gravimetric determination is not required.
Composition
- Long cellulose fibres: Provide structural integrity to the filter bed.
- Short cellulose fibres: Improve particle retention.
- Cotton linters: High purity—minimal analytical interference.
Typical Applications
Filtration of difficult suspensions with high colloidal load. Pre-filtration in water, soil and complex matrix analysis. Used in environmental analysis, quality control and analytical chemistry laboratories.
