Parafilm M Sealing Film Polyolefins and Paraffin
Flexible sealing film made from polyolefins and paraffin waxes. Stretches and moulds over flasks, tubes, plates, or any laboratory vessel without adhesive. Instant hermetic seal.
Working Range and Chemical Compatibility
- Working temperature:-45 °C to +50 °C
- Melting point:+60 °C
- Resistant to:Saline solutions, common inorganic acids and bases, methanol, ethanol, isopropanol
- Not resistant to:Diethyl ether, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, toluene
Applications
Temporary sealing of test tubes, flasks, Petri dishes, and vials. Used in microbiology to prevent cross-contamination, in chemistry to cover flasks during reactions, and in low-temperature storage.
Covers connections in distillation assemblies or protects screw caps against evaporation of compatible solvents.
Limitations
Not suitable for chlorinated or aromatic solvents — diethyl ether, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, and toluene attack the material. Above +50 °C, sealing performance degrades; melting point at +60 °C. For oven or autoclave use, select an alternative closure.
