Liebig-West Condenser Borosilicate Glass
Liebig-West condenser in borosilicate glass 3.3. Concentric double-tube construction: vapour through the inner tube, cooling water countercurrent through the outer jacket. Straight geometry, simple mounting vertically or obliquely.
How It Works
Hot vapour enters through the inner tube. Cold water flows in the opposite direction through the jacket — maximum temperature differential across the full length of the condenser. Condensate falls cleanly into the receiver with no carryover.
Applications
Simple and fractional distillation, reflux synthesis, purification by distillation in organic chemistry, pharmaceutical, research and quality control laboratories. Also used in university teaching as a reference condenser for introductory practical work.
Setup and Compatibility
Standardised ground glass joints at both ends. Connects directly to flasks, Vigreux columns, distillation heads and Büchner flasks of the same cone size — no intermediate adapters required. Side water inlets accept standard silicone or rubber tubing.
