PTFE-Coated Steel Stirring Rod
Stirring rod with a steel core and PTFE outer coating. Combines the mechanical robustness of steel with the chemical resistance of polytetrafluoroethylene — a practical solution when effective agitation is required in corrosive or reactive media.
Why PTFE and Not Bare Steel
Uncoated steel can contaminate samples through corrosion or react with acids and solvents. PTFE acts as an inert barrier: it resists concentrated acids, strong bases and most organic solvents without leaching material into the medium. The right choice when sample purity matters.
Specifications
- Material: Steel with PTFE coating
- Chemical resistance: Acids, bases and common organic solvents
- Contamination: None — PTFE does not release particles or ions into the medium
- Cleaning: Straightforward; reusable
Typical Use
Manual or assisted stirring in beakers, flasks and laboratory reactors. Standard choice for chemical synthesis, quality control and sample preparation where bare steel is ruled out on chemical compatibility grounds.
Maintenance
Wash with water and a mild detergent or a compatible solvent after each use. Inspect the coating periodically — if the PTFE shows cracks or flaking, replace the rod to prevent cross-contamination.
