Thiele Tube for Melting Point Determination — Borosilicate Glass LBG 3.3
Thiele tube manufactured in LBG 3.3 borosilicate glass. For melting point determination using an oil bath with convective circulation — no stirrer needed.
Why the Thiele design matters
The U-shaped side arm allows the heating fluid to circulate by natural convection when heat is applied at the base, producing a uniform temperature zone throughout the bath. The capillary tube holding the sample sits within this zone — a prerequisite for a reliable melting point reading.
Features
- Material: LBG 3.3 borosilicate glass
- Application: Melting point determination by oil bath
- Circulation: Natural convection through the side arm
- Thermal resistance: High — low expansion coefficient of borosilicate 3.3
Typical applications
Organic synthesis — confirming identity and purity of recrystallised solid compounds. Raw material quality control. Teaching laboratories for undergraduate organic chemistry: the standard method for characterising a solid.
Used with one-end sealed capillary tubes and a partial or total immersion thermometer, depending on protocol.
Technical data
