Dimroth Double-Surface Condenser, Borosilicate Glass
Double-surface Dimroth condenser manufactured in borosilicate glass 3.3. Vapour condenses on the outer surface of the helical coil while cooling water circulates through the interior — a countercurrent arrangement that maximises condensation efficiency.
Why the Dimroth design
Unlike ball or Liebig condensers, the Dimroth operates with dual contact surfaces: vapour contacts the glass on the outside while cold water flows through the inner helical tube. The result is more complete condensation at the same coolant flow rate. Particularly effective with low-boiling solvents such as diethyl ether, acetone, or dichloromethane.
Typical applications
- Reflux in organic synthesis with volatile solvents
- Distillations requiring maximum condensate recovery
- Soxhlet extraction assemblies as the upper condenser
- Prolonged exothermic reactions demanding efficient condensation
Specifications
- Type: Dimroth, double-surface
- Material: Borosilicate glass 3.3
- Coolant circulation: Water through internal helical coil
Installation and use
Mounted vertically on the reaction flask. Water connections are positioned at the bottom (inlet) and top (outlet) to promote countercurrent flow against rising vapour. Compatible with standard laboratory stands and boss heads.
